24-25 September 2007, Patras, Greece

http://www.converged-networks.eu

The “1st Workshop on IMS Enabled Converged Networks - IP Multimedia Subsystem: Present and Future” is jointly organized by the VITAL and PANLAB EU Projects.

The workshop will take place on 24-25 September 2007 in the Conference and Cultural Centre of the University of Patras in the city of Patras, Greece. The first day of the workshop is dedicated to presentations of speakers and keynotes while the second day (half a day) a number of live demos will be delivered by the testbeds of the participants of the two projects that involve IMS related scenarios followed by an open discussion.

Voiceglobe participates in the Workshop as one of the main VITAL Project partner, demonstrating peering interconnection scenarios of voice, video and conference communication between its IMS ready network and the rest project partners networks.

Sponsored by VOICEGLOBE

In the context of the workshop, Voiceglobe will offer free VoIP calls as sponsorship for the workshop participants in combination with Internet access offered to them by the University of Patras.

Voiceglobe will provide VoIP accounts to ALL the Workshop participants, allowing them to make Unlimited FREE Calls to any number, fixed or mobile, worldwide during the 2 days of the venue.
For that purpose, any Workshop participant will receive an activation key during his registration at the Workshop reception, for activating his Voiceglobe account and start using it calling from his notebook, PDA or smartphone.

A selected free softphone (e.g. eyebeam) will be available in the workshop’s website for downloading and installation in participants’ notebooks.

The Voiceglobe accounts will remain valid even beyond the end of the workshop allowing participants to activate them at any time later, enjoying a Bonus calling time of 3 Euro each.

Additionally, a booth with WiFi IP phones will be available to the participants in case they like to call directly without using their notebooks.

Workshop SCOPE

As implied by its title, the purpose of this workshop is to openly discuss the present and future of IMS as an enabling technology for converged networks, namely:

  • To discuss a series of present IMS features and functionality from the viewpoint of problems, limitation and deadlocks that may eventually lead IMS deployment to fall behind expectations and widespread adoption.
  • Attempt to make a projection into the future and contemplate IMS transformation and/or coexistence with emerging technologies like P2P and Social behaviour.

This workshop aspires to answer a key question: Is it really ‘the solution’ to true convergence and seamless communication or a ‘panacea’?
